We aim to become a company that keep impressing for the future with enhancing the power of water and the possibilities of paper.
President’s Message
Hattori Paper Mfg. started with handmade Japanese paper, followed by paper tape and Tanabata paper, and has long been manufacturing and selling toilet paper and other household paper products. However, after faced with the environmental problems like global warming, we began to develop products from the viewpoint of what we can do to hand down beautiful oceans, rivers, and lakes to the next generation. In order to reduce carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions and increase CO2 sinks, many countries and companies are focusing on tree-planting activities. On the other hand, Hattori Paper Mfg. believes it is important to protect "underwater forest*1" formed by seaweed and phytoplankton in the sea, considered to absorb more than twice as much CO2 through photosynthesis as tropical rainforests. Water Pollution makes seawater turbid and hinders the photosynthesis of seaweed and phytoplankton, resulting in a decrease in the underwater forest and absorbing sources of CO2. In addition, 60% to 70% of the pollution in the water environment is caused by domestic wastewater from households, with the largest percentage coming from kitchens. Therefore, in the hopes of cleaning up household wastewater as much as possible, we decided to contribute to the global warming prevention by developing products to reduce water pollution.
*2: Map of three major closed water areas and location of headquarters
In Japan, there are three major closed water areas*2 - Tokyo Bay, Ise Bay, and the Seto Inland Sea - where water quality has not been improved. Hattori Paper Mfg. is located in Ehime Prefecture, which faces the Seto Inland Sea. Even today, we should not forget that we polluted the Seto Inland Sea with wastewater from our factories during Japan's high-growth period in the 1970s. With gratitude to not only the Seto Inland Sea, but also Japan's oceans, and the world's oceans for their various blessings, we are developing products to protect the environment. One is paper product to clean dirt, for example, "Wiping Paper," which uses recycled paper and non-wood bagasse (sugarcane waste) to wipe off grease before washing dishes, "Kataduke-Poi," which disposes of waste oil and leftover cooking juices from homes without letting them go down the drain, and "Kitchen Paper," which is made from non-wood bagasse. The other is cleaning product that uses " the sodium bicarbonate electrolyzed water" and "the alkaline electrolyzed water" not used synthetic surfactants contained in most detergents. We are proud of contribution to the water environment and various other areas by not using synthetic surfactants, harmful to the environment and people. In recent years, the number of busy people who don’t make time to clean enough has been increasing, and we have been focusing on developing sheet-type cleaners that can be used for easy cleaning, using our unique technology. Hattori Paper Mfg. is rolling out these products including lifestyle proposals throughout Japan to provide them available to as many people as possible. We are convinced that this activity will surely be connected to the global warming prevention. Hattori Paper Mfg. will make further efforts in contributing to the global environment by promoting our products not only in Japan but also throughout the world.
